1987   Graduated from the Hong Kong Institute of Fashion Design
1990   Returned to Malaysia in 1990 to launch his eponymous label Eric Choong, which quickly garnered a following among the Malaysian fashion and socialite sets.

Nominated by the Malaysian Tourism Board as one of Malaysia’s top 10 designers.

Participated in Parkson Grand’s Contemporary Designers’ Show featuring designs by Malaysia’s top fashion designers.

1991 - 1992  

Nominated by Malaysian Tourism Board as “Malaysia’s Top 10 Designers”

1993   Participated in the Malaysian Songket Designers’ Show, which showcased clothing incorporating songket fabric. Foreign media took note of Eric at the event and named him as an up and coming fashion designer.

1994   Participated in fashion shows organised by the Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (MODA).
1997   Represented Malaysia at the ASEAN Designers’ Fashion Show, Singapore
1998   Represented Malaysia at the Asia Pacific Young Designers’ Show, Hong Kong
1999   Selected to participate in Tribute to Fashion organised by The Peak magazine in collaboration with Moet & Chandon. The exclusive by-invitation only event brought together a select group of personalities from the business and diplomatic communities.

Collaborated with Cartier for the launch of their latest range of jewellery.

Collaborated with Bvlgari for their millennium party.

2000   Invited by the late Tun Endon Mahmood (wife of Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi) to design and fabricate baju kebaya and evening gowns for the launch of Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia.

Collaborated with Tiffany & Co. to design outfits for a showcase of their jewellery and eveningwear for their gala dinner.

2001   A designated haute couture designer by Malaysia Tatler.

Represented Malaysia in the Asia Pacific Bridal Summit 2001 held in Kuala Lumpur.

Invited by Moet & Chandon to design a range of evening gowns for the Asian launch of Eastern & Oriental Express: Luxury Journey of Discovery.

2002   A designated haute couture designer by Malaysia Tatler.

Invited by Sutera Harbour Resort (Kota Kinabalu, Sabah) to showcase the latest bridal collection from Eric Choong Bridal in an event graced by the then Queen, Her Royal Highness the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid

Represented Malaysia in Show of Asian Cultural Garments held in conjunction with the Asia Annual Conference of Cultural Exchange 2003 held in Boao, Hainan Province, China.

Invited by Petronas Gallery (Malaysia) to participate in the Culture and Tradition in Contemporary Fashion Design exhibition to promote greater understanding and appreciation of visual arts amongst Malaysians.

Invited by The Star (Malaysia’s leading English language newspaper) to showcase his latest collection at the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2003 Gala.

Invited by International Enterprise Singapore to participate in Product Fashion Show alongside international brands/corporations such as Hewlett Packard, Nike, Porsche, Philips Design, Macromedia, Epson, Red Dot Germany and Citigate Su Yeang.

Participated in a fashion show organised by Yayasan Budi Penyayang Malaysia and MODA. Eric showcased his latest nyonya kebaya collection in honour of the country’s Straits-Chinese heritage.

2004   Represented Malaysia in Showcase of Malaysia 2004 held Beijing in conjunction with China and Malaysia’s 30th Anniversary Diplomatic Relations Conference.

Represented Malaysia at the Swarovski Spring/Summer Asian Fashion Tour.

Represented Malaysia in Glamour of Asian Culture fashion show in conjunction with the Asia Annual Conference of Cultural Exchange 2004 held in Boao, Hainan Province, China.

Represented Malaysia in Sanya, Hainan Province, China at the Asian Designers Showcase and was the guest of honour at the New Silk Road Model China and Miss China World competitions.

Invited by the Nanning Municipal Government to participate in the Southeast Asia International Fashion Show held in Nanning, Guangxi Province, China.

Invited by the Embassy of Belgium and the Malaysia-Belgium Luxembourg Business Council (MBLBC) to participate in Belgium Mystique 2004 held in Kuala Lumpur.

Invited to showcase his collection at the Malaysian Designers’ Showcase and CNN Gala Nite Fashion Show during Asia Fashion Week 2004 held in Kuala Lumpur.

Invited to showcase his latest collection at the DHL Corporate Night during the Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week 2004.

Invited by the organiser of the Malaysian International Fashion Awards (“MIFA”) to be a MIFA 2004 committee member; also nominated as MIFA 2004 Top 12 Malaysian Designers.

Participated in the Batik Exotica Gala Fashion Show held in conjunction with Malaysian Batik-Crafted For The World movement under the patronage of the late Tun Endon Mahmood.

Invited to sit on the judging panel for the Miss Malaysia/World competition. Eric was also selected as the Official Evening Gown Designer for Miss Malaysia/World – he designed her evening wear for the Miss World competition.

2005   Invited by the China National Garment Association on behalf of the People’s Government of Dongguan City, Guandong Province, China to showcase his latest collection at the 10th China (Humen) International Fashion Fair.

Listed in People at the Peak – The Who’s Who of Malaysia featuring personalities who comprise the driving forces of the nation’s vibrancy.

Contributed as a fashion columnist for Feminine Magazine (China), Nuyou and New Tide (Malaysia).

Participated in the Kuala Lumpur-Asia Fashion Week 2005 Tribute to Fashion.

Nominated as one of Malaysia’s top batik designers by publishers of the book Batik Inspirations.

2006   Represented ASEAN at the launch of Wuhan city as the fashion hub of West China.

Invited by the China National Garment Association on behalf of the Chongqing Economic Committee, China to showcase his latest collection at the 5th Chongqing International Fashion Fair.

Invited by the People’s Government of Dongguan City, Guandong Province, China as the sole ASEAN designer to showcase his latest collection at the 11th China (Humen) International Fashion.

Nominated as a KL Six designer by the Malaysian International Fashion Alliance. KL Six is a panel of six of the most celebrated Malaysian couture designers.

Awarded Best Costume Designer for The 3rd Generation at the 19th Malaysian Film Festival.
